In the Maldives, Amateur Radio License issuing authority is The Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM).
CAM website: https://www.cam.gov.mv
There are Two types of Amateur Licences.
1. Temporary License: valid for three months (MVR 200.)
2. Yearly License: valid for twelve months – for locals/ work visa holders (MVR 300.)
1. Maldivians
For Maldivians, CAM issue license based on international amateur radio certificates or qualifications. Currently, they do not have a syllabus nor a testing mechanism.
If you do need help or any information regarding Amateur Radio, please contact us !!
2. Foreigners – visiting the Maldives
Amateur Radio Operators visiting the Maldives can apply for a temporary license – valid for 3 months. And, if you have a work visa and necessary documents, you could apply for a yearly license.

Unfortunately, the Communication Authority doesn’t have a system to accept foreign payments. Also, PayPal receiving is not available in the Maldives yet.
Some settle the payment through the resort/ hotel management – where they plan to stay.
So, after discussing these issues with the Authority, we have volunteered to help fellow Amateur Operators visiting the Maldives.
Documents needed:
- Application Form (for Call Sign: you may give 3 options – suffix, write on the side of application form)
- Passport copy (data page)
- Amateur Radio License copy (current one)
- When you email the documents to Communication Authority (CAM), please do copy us
- Once we receive your documents we will contact CAM – to check the status (if any issue, we will contact you)
- When you give the OK (for payment), we will settle the payment on your behalf
- Once the License is ready, we will collect it and email you a scanned copy
- When you arrive to Maldives, we will meet you at Airport and handover the Original License
- We charge USD 50.00 (fifty) – for License Fee and transport
Please do remember to print a hard copy and keep it handy – to show if Airport Custom Officials questions you (you could even keep it in your phone)
Hope this is helpful and if you need any additional information pls let us know
